Spring A
In Maths, the children weighed different items using scales and compared their mass (measurement unit).
In DT, the children made couscous salad and used tools and equipment to perform practical tasks, chopping and mixing.
We were visited by the Rainbow Theatre for an immersive learning experience about Pirates. We all dressed up, performed and sang alongside actors to help us learn lots of new facts and information about the Jolly Roger and pirates.
In computing, we are revising using beebots to reach a particular destination on a map.

In RE, we discussed that advent for Christians is a special time of preparation and waiting for Christmas on the four Sundays leading up to Christmas Day. We talked about the different things that Christians do during the period of advent. We then made our own advent wreath...
In maths, to begin to understand the concept of division:
Ma has made a dozen delicious cookies. It should be plenty for her two children. But then the doorbell rings – and rings and rings! Each ring of the doorbell brings more friends to share the delicious cookies Ma has made.
We solved the division problem for each new visitor.
(English- To write instructions )We received a letter from Sparky who said he was losing his magical powers and wanted to go home. We had to make a special potion to give him back his powers. Let’s hope it works…….
A box arrived in class with a scorched lid with holes in it, a ‘fragile handle with care’ notice and it was addressed to Woodpecker Class! What could it be? We made lots of guesses and then opened the box carefully. We were all very excited to find a baby dragon inside! We named it Sparky.

In Design and Technology lesson, we followed a design to make a hand puppet using a range of tools and equipment.
Oh no! Our houses got burnt!
In Design an Technology lesson, the children made finger puppets.
As part of our learning about the Great Fire of London we made a model of a house or building from London in 1666. We then used the buildings to recreate the Great Fire of London at school.
We were visited by the Rainbow Theatre Company. They introduced us to the story of the Great Fire of London and we have learnt lots about what happened in 1666.
In maths, we played snakes and ladders to practise counting forwards and backwards.

In groups, the children looked at picture packs (The Great Fire of London) and listened to sound clips. They recorded what the pictures are of and any key features of the pictures. We then discussed these as a class and where the items could be from, what they might be made of and if anything had happened to them. We then thought of questions we would like to ask.
Woodpeckers created their own modern art piece using line tool and colour chart.
