This spring term, as part of our celebration of the National Year of Reading, our library has blossomed into a vibrant Reading Garden. This welcoming space invites children to explore and enjoy books together, helping to build positive reading habits and a genuine love of stories. Our Reading Garden reflects our belief that when reading is given the opportunity to grow in a rich and inspiring space, a lifelong love of books will blossom.
During library sessions, children can choose to “stick” with their selected book or “twist” and take home a mystery book wrapped in brown paper as part of our Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover initiative. Inside each mystery book is a short book review for the children to complete and return to school. These reviews will be displayed to inspire other children to try new books! Every child who takes part will receive a special reading sticker to celebrate their reading journey.
As part of our commitment to the National Year of Reading 2026, a campaign led by the Department for Education and the National Literacy Trust, we are encouraging parents and carers to make use of the Purple Mash platform at home. Purple Mash provides a rich library of reading materials and literacy activities suitable for a range of ages and abilities, helping to build confidence and enjoyment in reading beyond the classroom. We hope families will take advantage of this valuable resource to support children’s reading journeys throughout the year.
You can find your child’s username and password in the back of their reading diary. If you require any assistance with access or log-ins, please speak to your child’s teacher or the School Office.
