Heron Class is the school’s purpose-built, seven-place resourced provision for children with an autistic spectrum condition. While admissions to Heron Class are managed by the local authority—through the EHCP process and in consultation with parents, the school and SEN services—the children within it are very much part of the wider Fleet Infant School community. Through a carefully planned, inclusive approach, each child has a linked mainstream class, giving them daily opportunities to build friendships and engage in shared learning experiences. Over time, pupils are supported to access a balanced timetable, with the aim of accessing around 50% of their learning within the resourced provision and 50% within their mainstream class. Although Heron Class provides targeted, specialist-informed support within a smaller, structured environment, it remains an integral part of the school rather than a separate specialist setting.
